Santa Claus's Christmas Trivia Challenge: 100 Questions about the secular and sacred customs of Christmas
Santa Claus's Trivia Challenge is an attractive, glossy-covered, quiz book.
There are many ways to use it to celebrate Christmas:
It makes a good gift for someone who likes trivia or someone who likes Christmas. It also makes a great Christmas-themed game to play at a family gathering or Christmas party.
There are many ways to take the Challenge: An individual player could fill out the book like a school exam. Another way to take the challenge would be for one player to read the questions to others who then write their answers on separate pieces of paper. (Most of the questions are multiple choice). The answers are provided at intervals throughout the quiz book. (So the person reading the questions could also attempt to answer them) At the end of the book a light-hearted interpretation of what your score means is provided.
In the spirit of giving customer satisfaction - some cautionary notes: The difficulty is meant for ages 12 to adult. Younger players will enjoy the challenge more as a cooperative effort. The book takes a distinctly pro-Christian stance on Christmas. However, it also celebrates the secular fun in Christmas. These facts should not be an issue for 99% of customers. (If you don't like Christmas why are you reading a quiz book about it?) The challenge is difficult but not impossible. Getting more than half the questions right is a good score.
The questions are loosely organized into three subjective categories of easy, medium, and hard. The advantage to this loose organization is that the questions move back and forth from topic to topic, so seldom are there very many questions about the same subject in a row.Â
Although the book does not further organize the questions, here is some further categorization, to give you an idea of the nature of the questions:
*10 questions about the modern Santa *7 questions about how Saint Nicholas became known as Santa Claus in the United States *20 questions about Christmas cards, trees, stockings, and presents *4 questions about Christmas decorations and symbols *20 questions about Christmas music *15 questions about Christmas-themed books and movies *4 questions about Christmas in the Bible *20 questions about the history of celebrating Christmas. Some of these questions are religious in nature.
The subtitle uses the terms secular and sacred and if the questions were classified by only those two broad categories, there are 63 secular questions and 37 sacred questions.
